Washing up bowl pond

Inspired to finally act by all the posts on Twitter and other channels I have created a washing up bowl pond in the garden.

I have been thinking about putting in a larger pond for ages but couldn't work out the where to position it... will it get the right amount of sunlight, will I still be able to get to the flowerbeds, will I be able to cut the grass.

The best position is in a small patch of grass that has a natural dip in it so water will run into the pond. I have put the washing up bowl pond in this spot so that this could be enlarged at a later date.

The only questions now are will anything turn up and use the pond and how am I going to to do the washing up!

New Neighbours?

Sunday morning, 20th February and a Blue Tit is investigating the nest box outside the kitchen window. There was quite an interest last spring and even some nest building but no eggs laid. Fingers crossed they decide to stay this year.

Conifers

This is just a record for me and will seem incredibly dull to anyone else reading this post!

Another session in the garden, making the most of the pleasant weather. I gave the two 'smaller' conifers a haircut and they are now much tidier. Managed to fill up 8 large sacks of the clippings so took these off to the local tip, along with some other garden cuttings from the weekend.

Bulbs

Planted some bulbs in pots today

Chimney Pot = Red & Purple Tulips  (Tulip Pallada & Tulip Havran)
Large terracotta pot = Allium (Purple Sensation)
Smaller straight sided pot = Yellow Tulip (Golden Apeldorn)
Rounded pot = Snake's Head Fritillary.

Also, dwarf Iris and mixed tulips planted in pots on 20th October. A few mixed tulips in 'Chinese Lantern' bed too.
